Black Guard

Air ACEO

Not ignoring people, just having majorly busy life at the moment! Work again tonight, probably only until midnight (as opposed to 3AM)... At home having dinner and a shower at the moment. Sneaky peaky at what I've been working on... ACEO card to be put up for sale on ETSY at some stage

Palace Guard

Blue Dragon Sidhe

Another elf boy. The dragon around his arm is from Greek myth (I think this is the one from Jason & The Argonauts - dragons don't always have wings).

Music

If you are on the hunt for 'new age' kind of music have a listen to Priscilla Hernández an extremely talented singer, songwriter & artist. I finally got around to buying her CD, and it's just lovely. The packaging is worth buying it in CD form :) It's hard to describe how it sounds... there are dark gothic tones, light airy pieces, and just a really interesting mix. Check her out at http://www.yidneth.com

I will be updating my site soon... I redid all my computer so am in the process of re-setting up all my programs and bits and pieces. Until then, here's a sketchy thing I did in photoshop.

Eriu

Finally *glees* she's finished! I forget how much I love painting with acrylics and although I've probably only got half a dozen online, I used to paint nearly exclusively with acrylics up until the end of art college. This one looked wrong for about two months until I finally got the cloudy sky happening :)

"Ériu"
Acrylics on paper - 11 x 16" (A3)

Background of the painting (There are lots of different myths with subtle variances):
I've loved the character Ériu since I read Orla Melling's The Singing Stone when I was about 13. I think that's where my obsession with Celts probably began (already loved Arthurian knights and medieval stuff, but Melling opened my eyes to Celtic Mythology). Anyways, Ériu is the namesake of Ireland, one of the Tuatha Dé Danann (Irish gods). She had two sisters Banba and Fódla (the top left). Amergin, the Milesian bard, stands to the right, with King Mil below him.

Arriving by ship, they made a truce with the Tuatha Dé Danann to stay nine waves distance from the shore. The Tuatha Dé Danann cast a magical storm to destroy the invaders, however Amergin calmed the waves with his songs, the Milesians went to shore and defeated the Tuatha Dé Danann. When Amergin divided the land between the peoples, he set aside above the ground for the Milesians, and underground for the Tuatha Dé Danann (who entered via the Sidhe mounds).

Some of the symbols include the four mythical treasures of the Tuatha Dé Danann -
  • the Spear of Lug - representing Truth (held by one of the sisters)
  • Dagda's Cauldron - a cornucopia (held by Ériu)
  • The Stone of Fal (Lia Fáil) - two stones of destiny (The standing stones Ériu stands between)
  • Sword of light (Claíomh Solais) - (held by Amergin as he will eventually win the battle and rule well)
I know there was some meaning with the flowers (probably just me being poetic with wild Irish Roses - I know I hunted for particular flowers, can't remember why), and her hair colour is blonde - I think I read a reference about the Tuatha Dé Danann having blonde hair (though I accidentally painted one of the sisters with dark auburn hair). The Milesians were said to be Gaelic/ Spanish.

New art :) Erinyes & Rose Unicorn

I forgot to post these here *rolls eyes at oversight*

Erinyes - finished (well as much as I could do before the deadline)

Finally finished, over a year after I sketched the piece :) Not the colours I'd planned on using (paintbrush kind of went where it wasn't meant to go)

I have another art piece, but I'll be kind to people's downloads and post it in a few days :)

On other news...
We had a medieval festival on Saturday. Boy was my posture good in my 16th century Italian gown! I was laced and hooked in, managed to dance in it and eat in it, but carrying half your weight in fabric certainly makes you sweat :P

I've been on training these last few days. It's wonderful being out of the office. We've been learning I guess what you could call 'ethical hacking' techniques to improve security development. The practical stuff is so much more interesting than learning about the different security protocols. But it's all a necessary evil. I just wish we had internet access to the desktops at work so we could subscribe to technical blogs rather than being forced to do it in our own time.

Random linkies to interesting sites

A really cool animation of the Bayeux Tapestry - I know, really old, but still very cool!

http://illustr8.blogspot.com/ - I love his illustrations - rather abstract and photo-montage images, but I love textured images like this.

http://fantasticportfolios.com - Ellen's creative baby. If you are an artist, go be a member (says she who's still figuring out what to upload :P)

http://www.edgeworlds.com - Anneth Lagamo's sketchy site :)

April - May Update

Hi all

Only a small update this month. Life has settled back down to a slightly more manageable speed! Unfortunately not that much in the way of new art, but plenty on the drawing board!

See my artwork featured at Gary Allen's Lath'roug Saga.

New Artworks

Guerhn (And Haek)
Drow

This month there are only two new addition - Guerhn in one of the villain of Gary Allen's Lath'roug saga. Behind him, his loyal bodyguard, Haek waits for the command... The other is a dark elf or Drow, based loosely on friend and fellow artist Harmony Steel.

However, because there's no new art, I thought I'd include a few shots from on my Drawing board, some of which has been there for some time! (click on the image to see a larger view):
